Albina Vision Trust (AVT) is stewarding the thoughtful reinvention of lower Albina, the cultural heart of Portland and the once-thriving center of Portland’s Black community, from which thousands of residents were forcibly displaced. AVT seeks to honor the neighborhood’s history by restoring its identity and transforming what exists today into a vibrant socially and economically inclusive neighborhood.
Bottom Line for Portland
Albina Vision Trust is intentionally designing a new kind of community in the lower Albina neighborhood. The ground is special. It is a place where the racial inequity of urban renewal came, then came again, and again… Promises were made and broken. Black people and immigrants were displaced. Wealth was taken. The past mandates a special approach to a new and brighter future. And the time for action is now.
