App Camp for Girls

To inspire middle-school-age girls and transgender and gender-nonconforming youth with a broad introduction to the process of app development, from brainstorming and designing ideas to building and pitching their apps.

Bottom Line for Portland

Last year, App Camp For Girls served 66 middle schoolers. Three-quarters of participants wanted to come back as interns and/or participate in after school coding clubs. After one week of camp, confidence in technology and development skills increased from 36 to 85 percent, and participants have an increased desire to pursue a STEM career field.

“This is my third year at App Camp. I was a participant in 2014 and I made a really cool app with three other people…. Now I've been an intern and it’s been so amazing. I've met so many new people and had so many experiences—I wouldn't have any other way.” —Gabi
