Black United Fund

To assist in the social and economic development of Oregon’s low-income communities and contribute to a broader understanding of ethnic and culturally diverse groups.

Bottom Line for Portland

The Black United Fund of Oregon believes that education is a tool that can be used to change the entire trajectory of a community. Based on this belief, BUFOR offers education programs to students in the community including mentoring, scholarship support, and college/work support. BUFOR also awards grants to other nonprofits who share this same belief.

“Before visiting BUFOR, I had never seen a black person in Oregon outside of my host family…. BUFOR gave me a true sense of home and belonging. I am so grateful to have received a scholarship from them to attend Lewis & Clark College! This opportunity changed my life for the better.” —2017 ACCESS scholarship recipient
