Brown Hope

Brown Hope leads community-grounded initiatives to make justice a lived experience for Black, Brown and Indigenous people in Oregon.

Bottom Line for Portland

This past year, Brown Hope invested in the healing and resilience of 6,000 Portlanders trying to survive the ongoing shockwaves of racism and historical trauma. Our initiatives respond to urgent community needs, such as: the Black Resilience Fund, which has provided immediate financial relief to 5,000 neighbors; Power Hour, which has alleviated isolation and socioeconomic disparities for 600 community members; and Blackstreet Bakery, which has sustained livable wages for five Black Portlanders. We organize for lasting impact by advocating for policies that promote community resilience and inspire transformative change.

“As a senior citizen, I was going to physical therapy to assist with my walking. Then COVID happened. I had a car accident. I was struggling. This fund gave me emotional strength to believe and have hope again.” —Adolph, Black Resilience Fund recipient
