To broaden access to bicycling and its benefits by helping build a vibrant community in which people of all backgrounds use bicycles to stay healthy and connected.
Bottom Line for Portland
In the past two decades, the Community Cycling Center has given away more than 10,000 bikes to children from low-income families. Since 2012, more than 2,000 kids have attended CCC’s summer bike camp. Its Bike Shop serves as a community hub, offering low-income commuter discounts, bike repair and maintenance classes, and a tool lending library.
“Being a struggling family in today’s economy, any help you can get for your kids is welcomed. This creates a stimulus to do something positive with the family. It’s so hard to do things with kids. Everything costs money. Now we can all ride together, [which means] more fun times for our family while we’re going through hard times.” —shane, father of a 2015 holiday bike drive bike recipient
Portland Design Works will offer daily 20 percent discounts of donors of $50 or more and one big give day with a $500 commuter package (raffle for all daily donors). Nutcase will host a raffle every Tuesday for Nutcase helmet - fitting/sizing at CCC shop. Salt & Straw is teaming up with Congressman Earl Blumenauer and his fruitcake recipe. Ice cream proceeds will fund the Community Cycling Center this holiday season.
