Farmers Market Fund makes healthy, locally grown food accessible to underserved Oregonians by doubling SNAP benefits at more than 20 metro-area farmers markets. We help families bring home more fruits and vegetables, give small farmers an economic boost, and keep more food dollars in our local economy.
Bottom Line for Portland
In 2018, 86 percent of SNAP shoppers reported purchasing more fresh produce as a result of the match, and 79 percent reported the amount of food in their house increased. In addition, 81 percent of participants felt an improvement in their overall health, while market vendors reported a 39 percent increase in SNAP sales.
“I think this program is incredible! I can hardly afford to feed my growing kids, and junk food is more affordable than healthy foods. Thanks to this SNAP match, I have the opportunity to expose my kids to fresh, local healthy food!” —Portland Farmers Market shopper
