The Freshwater Trust (TFT) is a group of problem solvers that design and implement data-driven, science-based solutions that protect and restore rivers.
Bottom Line for Portland
TFT has worked to restore the Sandy River basin, the origin of Portland’s drinking water, since 2012. We’ve implemented 35 restoration projects, improving water quality and fish habitat, and increasing stream function by almost 18,000 functional linear feet. Datasets on fish abundance tracked since the beginning of restoration work show that the number of Salmon River steelhead smolts, young salmon or trout, have increased from 3,400 in 2010 to more than 27,000 in 2018.

“As an archetype, TFT isn’t a James Bond. It’s an Everyday Hero. The work they do is often behind the scenes, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of so much. And their work is always benefiting the greater good. There’s no better organization to support or be a part of than one whose work is going to benefit so many.” —Lili Yeo, CEO and co-founder of goumi and TFT supporter
