To bring people in Northwest communities together to plant and care for urban trees and greenspaces.
Bottom Line for Portland
Last season, FOT—with more than 6,000 volunteers—planted more than 55,000 trees and native shrubs in 22 communities across the region. Recent national studies have quantified the environmental, economic and social values of this “green infrastructure,” and show that every $1 invested in urban trees creates $2 to $4 in community benefits.
“Planting trees in our city creates a healthy and safe environment. It brings our community together. Working for FOT created a sense of happiness for me; it allowed me to go out of my circle and create great new relationships.” —Friends of Trees volunteer
