Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest

To inspire girls ages 6-18 to be strong, smart and bold through research-based, gender-specific groups and enrichment programs.

Bottom Line for Portland

In the past year, Girls Inc. served more than 1,500 girls. Its programming targets a diverse, underserved population: 100 percent of participants fall at or below the national poverty line, 67 percent identify as racial or ethnic minorities, most come from single-parent households, and all are at risk for substance abuse, violence and poverty.

“I joined a girls group in third grade. I’m an awesome leader with a love for science, and am the main programmer for my Lego Robotics group. Every year, I return to hang with girlfriends to discover my own power.” —Abi, sixth-grade participant
