To change lives by fostering healing and resilience in vulnerable and marginalized communities through trauma-informed yoga.
Bottom Line for Portland
During the past year, Living Yoga served 3,100 individual students through volunteer teachers bringing 30 trauma-informed yoga classes per week to 20 different Portland metro area locations. These included prisons, drug-and-alcohol rehabilitation centers, and social service agencies for people ages 7–70.
“Inmates who dedicate themselves to the practice of yoga report an improvement in their sense of well-being…of having a calmer spirit and reduction in stress level. Some inmates claim these changes have improved the quality of their family relationships.”—Chaplain Phillip Holbrook, Columbia River Correctional Institution
