Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center

To promote conservation through educational experiences in wilderness.

Bottom Line for Portland

In 2016,1,500 students experienced transformative hands-on education at Opal Creek, two-thirds of them from the Portland metro area. More than 1,000 low-income students received tuition subsidies as part of our work to improve equity in outdoor education and foster a lifelong love of nature in all children.

"I've been teaching fifth grade for 17 years, and my students' experience at Opal Creek was the best 48 hours of learning! Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center is a magical place, and a learning experience all students will treasure.” —Bjorn Merten, Clarkes Elementary School teacher
