Rock ’n’ Roll Camp for Girls’ mission is to amplify the voices of women, girls and trans folk through collaborative music creation to create a community of revolutionaries who speak up for social change.
Bottom Line for Portland
Portland is music and Rock ’n’ Roll Camp for Girls is Portland. Founded here in 2001, we’ve spent 20 years teaching girls and trans youth that they can get loud and take up space and we’re not about to let the pandemic get in our way. This year we’re transforming and innovating to bring music into kids’ lives via instrument lending, VCR!—Virtual Camp ROCKS!, and getting our mobile practice and performance RV “Rosetta” into schools and neighborhoods for small group workshops and lessons.
Everyone who gives $15 or more will receive an original “Black Women in Music” poster created exclusively for Rock ’n’ Roll Camp for Girls by PSU Capstone Graphic Design student Harleigh. Check the poster out at girlsrockcamp.org.
Donors who contribute $35 or more will be entered to win a Freeland Spirits mystery box worth $200!
“Rock ’n’ Roll Camp for Girls was there for me when I was at an emotional low, but five years of musical, cultural and even spiritual mentorship has given me a family, an outlet to pursue my dreams, to be a better leader, musician, friend, young woman and overall person.” —Maggie, 15, intern
