KBOO Community Radio

KBOO is an independent, member-supported, noncommercial, volunteer-powered community radio station. KBOO embodies equitable social change, shares knowledge, and fosters creativity by delivering locally rooted and diverse music, culture, news and opinions, with a commitment to the voices of oppressed and underserved communities.

Bottom line for Portland

KBOO promoted 238 community partner events in 2016. This year, KBOO listeners heard about 187 ways to connect with organizers, nonprofits and issues. KBOO promotes equity, uplifting voices unrepresented in mainstream media; 30 percent of KBOO's on-air programmers are people of color.

In a time of corporate media mergers and consolidation, independent progressive voices are at a premium. But here in Portland, you are fortunate to have KBOO. Listener-supported radio. How powerful is that? Very. Don’t take it for granted.” —David Barsamian, founder and director of Alternative Radio
