35 & Under Challenge
Are you 35 or under? Then you can vote in this $10,000 challenge!
At the heart of WW's Give!Guide lies a powerful mission: to inspire a new generation of givers and cultivate a community of engaged and compassionate citizens. We believe the energy, passion, and fresh perspectives of younger readers can drive positive change in our community.
That’s why we’ve created the 35 & Under Challenge.
Now, it’s up to our youngest donors to tell us what matters the most to them. Here’s how it works — Donate $10 or more to the nonprofits whose work most resonates with you. Each donation you make acts as a vote. Then, when the Give!Guide giving window closes at midnight on December 31, the nonprofit in each category with the most donors age 35 and under will be awarded an additional $1,000! Altogether, that's an extra $10,000 in prize money being directed by our youngest donors.
Hot tip: Many of our Big Give Days have extra prizes just for donors 35 and under.
Why the focus on young donors?
We want the next generation of Portlanders to get in the habit of investing in our community. If young people begin supporting nonprofits now, even with small, $10 or $20 donations, research tells us they are likely to continue to give as they get older – and the amount of their support will grow with their income.
Another hot tip: Many families use Give!Guide as a way to teach their children about philanthropy. The family learns about the nonprofits, decide what's important, and allow the children to make the donation. It's an empowering act for children. It helps them identify their values and learn about organizations working on things that matter to them. It also teaches them about citizenship, stewardship, and empathy.
