Mission

Adelante Mujeres provides holistic education and empowerment opportunities to Latina women and families to ensure full participation and active leadership in the community.

Bottom Line for Portland

Adelante Mujeres means ‘Women Rise Up’ and we are a grassroots organization run by and for the Latinx community. We partner with more than 10,000 people per year, building Latina leadership through creative, innovative programming in education, entrepreneurship, and leadership training. Graduates of our programs become civic leaders, immigrant rights activists, youth leaders, entrepreneurs, sustainable farmers, and much more. Together, we can empower even more Latinas to lead in 2022.

Quote

“When I feel empowered, I feel secure in fighting for my rights. When I feel empowered, I don’t feel scared to speak up. It’s so important for us, as Latinas, to feel empowered because we need to lead. I see an empowered Latina as a leader. They’re not going to be scared to say ‘I, too, can do that. I, too, can do that work and make a change’. [Adelante Mujeres] has helped empower me. I feel empowered. I feel powerful.” - Milka Mendez, Adelante Mujeres graduate.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Adelante Mujeres, we view racial equity as breaking down the barriers for communities of color to live a dignified life. We actively support efforts to dismantle racial and structural inequities that hinder the opportunities for communities of color to achieve in life. We must support and be in solidarity with children, families, and communities of all backgrounds to strive for a just society. Our stand on racial equity is focused internally as well. We acknowledge that the majority of our staff come from a historical narrative of oppression and to dismantle long-term consequences of racial inequities, we commit to internal best practices for our staff. Our staff and leaders represent the community. 92% of our staff are Latinx, 7 out of 8 of the Senior Management Team are Latina, 76% of our board identify as Latinx.
