Bag&Baggage Productions
Mission
Bag&Baggage Productions is a social impact theatre company that employs artistic expression to elicit cultural connections & to unify the community through meaningful engagement and transformative learning opportunities.
Bottom Line for Portland
B&B is a social impact theatre company, welcoming arts lovers from across the metro for over 20 years. Our work expands the canon, making space for diverse artists and audiences, and meaningful cultural connections. Bag&Baggage anchors Historic Downtown Hillsboro's Cultural Arts District at the Vault Theater and is home to the Native Theater Project, the Hillsboro Youth Performance Ensemble (H.Y.P.E.), and the Hillsboro Film Festival.
Quote
"I am a person of color living in Oregon with a partner who has a disability and a child who is transgender. Bag & Baggage has helped bring meaningful art back into my life…to walk into a theatre in my community where I know my family and I are not just welcomed, but encouraged to be there… knowing that representation of our struggle, our persistence, and our stories will be lifted up…fills my cup with joy"
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Bag&Baggage creates unforgettable experiences directed at the breadth of the community, by boldly reckoning with the classics with intention - lifting culturally specific populations and ensuring those populations are represented in the makeup of the creative teams assembled and in the composition of the audiences gathered to experience the work. Bag&Baggage is committed to producing work that expands the canon- elevating queer and BIPOC voices, centering neglected histories, identifying new and urgent 'classics' that address social justice, and championing artists who are reclaiming their cultural narratives.
