Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area
Mission
Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metro’s mission is to empower all young people to discover their full potential, especially those who need us most.
Bottom Line for Portland
Since 1946, Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro have been at the forefront of providing a safe and nurturing space where youth ages 6 to 18 can spend time out of school.
Our club spaces function as safe, positive, and transformative environments during out-of-school time hours that effectively grow and develop youth as next generation leaders and innovators. We work to inspire youth and teens to achieve success in our four core competencies: Financial Empowerment, STEAM, Sport & Play, Life & Career Pathways.
Through these strategic and intentional programs, we aspire to address and help close the Opportunity Gap, Wealth Gap, and Play Gap that the youth in our communities we serve experience.
Quote
Going to Boys and Girls Club has given me lots of once in a lifetime experience that I would not have ever been able to experience. Although I was shy, being able to connect with other kids at different events in different environments helped me.
- - Nambi, 2024 Youth of the Year, Inukai Club Member
I grew up as a BGCP Club kid along with my brothers. I was very quiet and shy as a child, and credit the club and the supporting staff for encouraging me to build my confidence and be a voice in my community. I have been a staff member and mentor at BGCP for almost 10 years and now hold a leadership role supporting the community. I have also been an active member of the BGCP Equity Team for five years, supporting BGCP in integrating racial equity at both a cultural and institutional level.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
BGCP commits itself to undoing patterns of injustice in a deliberate and targeted manner, with a particular focus on ethnicity and race. In this ongoing process, we commit to using the principles of equity and inclusion to evaluate and guide our policies, practices, and procedures; to eliminate disparities; and to implement an inclusive process for receiving community input.
We aspire to engage our club members in experiential and project-based programming that will build skills and competencies, broaden their horizons, develop growth mindsets, and shape character toward propelling them to levels of success they likely would not have pursued, or been exposed to otherwise. Club memberships are now offered to families at no cost.
