Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area

Mission
The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro is to empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to discover their full potential as caring, engaged, responsible community members.
Bottom Line for Portland
For over 75 years in the Portland Metro Area, we’ve been at the forefront of providing a safe and nurturing space where youth can spend time out of school, sharpen skills, discover new pursuits and surround themselves with a strong support system of friends and mentors. Clubs open doors of opportunity for young people to realize a wide variety of positive outcomes, a strategy for developing the “whole child.”
We operate 10 sites in communities with the highest need, serving underserved youth ages six to 18. Through caring, professional staff mentors, we meet the critical needs of our diverse members by providing everyday necessities such as healthy meals and snacks, academic support, counseling services, field trips, and employment opportunities. Additionally, we support our communities through free food distribution and vaccination clinics. We make great efforts to stay in-tune with the needs of local communities to ensure our programmatic strategy and approach are relevant and responsive to the communities we serve.
Quote
“The reason Clubs succeed? Strategic, transformative, and responsive programming. We listen to the voices of our communities and create programming that advances equity, addresses disparity, and empowers youth to build Great Futures (that otherwise would be limited without our Clubs). It’s a proven model and in today’s climate, now (more than ever) is the time to ensure we are adequately meeting the needs of our youth (especially in the areas of mental health and workforce readiness)."
-Terry Johnson, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro Area
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland exists to help empower all youth, families, and staff to reach their full collective potential. We believe in the right for individuals and communities to have equitable access and opportunity to participate and succeed. We recognize that there have been, and continue to be, patterns of oppression, exploitation, and unfairness in the culture, law, and institutions of our country that harm underserved groups and communities. We are committed to undoing these patterns of injustice in a deliberate and targeted manner, with a particular focus on ethnicity and race. By becoming more equitable and inclusive, we will better empower and support the youth, families, staff, and communities that make up the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, as they discover their Great Futures.
