Bridging Voices
Mission
Bridging Voices is a welcoming space for members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community to forge connections through music and to entertain audiences using music as a vehicle to unify our communities. creates a safe and accessible place for queer, transgender, and nonbinary youth of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to experience empowerment and unity through music. We believe bridges are better than walls, and aim to break down the foundations of homophobia, transphobia, and racism through diversity, visibility, and creative expression.
Bottom Line for Portland
Through concerts and outreach we create positive visibility of the queer youth community; our members learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and practice, coupled with the joy of a successful performance that others may find in school or youth sports. Only Bridging Voices provides this opportunity to foster community and success specifically among our often at-risk LGBTQ+ youth.
Quote
“Bridging Voices gives people a place to be themselves and they can have people use their correct pronouns and have people accept them even when nobody else does.” - Bridging Voices Singer
“I have seen some kids come in through the door with dark, stormy clouds over their heads and in a matter of months, one day a week, transform into more confident young adults who are comfortable sharing what’s on their minds and for once, being themselves.” – Bridging Voices Parent
