The mission of Children’s Center is to work with the community to end child abuse and neglect through assessment, treatment, and prevention; we are celebrating 20 years of working with our community to build a world where every child feels safe, valued, and heard.
Bottom Line for Portland
Child abuse impacts everyone. We know that the long-term impact on children who experience abuse/neglect includes risky behaviors, chronic health conditions, mental health issues, substance use, low academic achievement, incarceration, limited life potential, and even early death. This not only is devastating for the individual child, but also impacts the well-being of the whole community. When someone donates to Children's Center, they are helping to chance the trajectory of a child's life; our services offer support to help children and their protective families achieve healthy, productive futures so that they can contribute meaningfully to their community.
“The discovery that one's child has been abused paralyzes a parent…(but)abuse is not an emotional death sentence if a family has the Children's center's resources. After working with the Children's Center my children are leading successful adult lives with fulfilling careers and healthy relationships. I credit Children's Center for setting us on this path to recovery.” ~A parent speaking of their experience with Children's Center when their children were young.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Children’s Center recognizes that child abuse and neglect are linked with systemic inequity, and that looking at all power differentials is necessary to end child abuse and neglect. We commit to applying a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens to all our efforts and relationships. This lens will guide the evolution of our programs, initiatives, policies, and practices in a way that honors the inherent dignity of all people.
