Ecology in Classrooms & Outdoors (ECO)

Mission

ECO inspires students to care for nature and their local communities through hands-on science education and climate action.

Bottom Line for Portland

For 18 years, ECO has delivered lessons in classrooms and outdoors to support teachers in meeting classroom learning goals and academic benchmarks with curricula designed to reach all learning styles and empower stewardship through community engagement.

The importance of ECO’s mission has grown with the need for ecological and climate literacy to counteract climate anxiety, develop critical thinking skills, and connect human action and environmental health. Students discover our interconnectedness and recognize that caring for our shared place is the same as caring for each other.
