Family Justice Center of Washington County
Mission
Our mission is to work collaboratively with our community to provide a single location for prevention, intervention, healing and hope for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse in Washington County.
Bottom Line for Portland
Oregon has rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, and childhood trauma at rates higher than the national average. To address that alarming reality, and make breaking the cycle a real possibility, our community needed to come together. The Family Justice Center of Washington County was founded by our community, for our community.
We’re a collaboration of 18 agencies inside a single center dedicated to providing survivors with the wrap-around services they need for safety, healing and hope.
Previously, survivors of violence and abuse would have to travel around the entire county to access valuable resources, many wouldn’t know the wide range of resources offered, some would give up. Now, in one place, survivors and their children have access to counseling, restraining orders, safety planning, legal aid, food assistance and much more.
Since opening in 2018 we have provided services to over 21,600 survivors.
Together, we are ending the cycles of violence and abuse.
Quote
“Thank you for giving me the incredible strength that I am not a victim, but I am a survivor.”
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The Family Justice Center is deeply committed to reducing all barriers to survivors seeking services. We ensure staff and materials are bilingual and bi-cultural, provide culturally specific and responsive services, and actively examine our data and policies for disparities, inequitable impact, and barriers. About 57% of survivors served at the FJC are people of color and 83% of FJC staff and leadership identify people of color and lived experience.
Centering the voices and perspectives of people with lived experiences is important to us. A key way we center the voices of survivors in program planning and evaluation is through VOICES, our survivor advisory committee, who meet monthly to guide the development and evaluation of FJCWC programs, advocate and empower other survivors, and educate our community about family violence.
