Mission

Friends of Trees inspires people to improve the world around them through a simple solution: Planting trees. Together.

Bottom Line for Portland

A million trees*! This season Friends of Trees celebrates planting a million trees (*and native shrubs!) with more than 75,000 community volunteers since 1989.

Think about the difference those trees and natural areas make in our lives; think about all of those volunteers, getting up on countless Saturday mornings over the past 36 years.

Our millionth tree, like all of the trees and native shrubs we’ve planted, will be planted the Friends of Trees Way, with the power of community volunteers. This is community climate action and YOU make this possible - THANK YOU!

Quote

"I love the way strangers come together and leave as friends and neighbors after planting trees together. I also love that now I get to see the trees I planted grow over the years. This is all magic." – Steph, Friends of Trees volunteer

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Friends of Trees recognizes that not everyone has equal access to the benefits of trees, and our climate justice work includes partnering with organizations to help historically underserved communities access all that trees have to offer—cooler & healthier neighborhoods, green jobs, and so much more. We prioritize planting trees in low-canopy, underserved neighborhoods, and our youth and adult education programming supports skill-building and workforce development. We strive to be a welcoming and safe place for everyone, regardless of age, ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, political views or economic status. Without our volunteers, we are nothing. But together we do amazing things.
