HOLLA

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

HOLLA's mission is to change the narrative of youth of color through culturally responsive relationships.

Bottom Line for Portland

HOLLA exists to witness the power and potential of Black and Brown youth in our community. The youth in our programs are the future leaders - directors, artists, activists, CEOs, and presidents - of tomorrow. Our mentors and youth work together to achieve a common vision: we not only reach beyond what - according to the predominant narrative - should be expected from Black and Brown youth, but we seek to change the narrative entirely. We can spark this change by fostering culturally responsive relationships between children and caring adults through our mentorship program. As well as through our HOLLA school where we believe that Abundance, Brilliance and Creativity is in every child.

Quote

I think people look at mentoring as being this thing where you're having to share wisdom and knowledge with someone, but there is so much that you learn about your self in this process as well. You kind of have to face yourself in some ways. Especially if you are paired with someone who is so similar to you. It's a reciprocal process.” Mentor Uju

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At HOLLA, diversity is not something we strive for, it is who we are. We celebrate the identities, individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, and talent of each person- the visible and invisible qualities that make you who you are. HOLLA affirms and welcomes people of all races, ethnicities, abilities, experiences, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, religion, and citizenship statuses. Our inclusive culture inspires us to try new things, speak openly, and be bold. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion guides us into culturally responsive relationships that thrive on joyfully celebrating the individuals who make up our community.
