Mission

IRCO’s mission is to promote the integration of refugees, immigrants, and the community-at-large into a self-sufficient, healthy, and inclusive multi-ethnic society, centering the needs of newcomers building new beginnings.

Bottom Line for Portland

IRCO has been working in Portland for over 45 years to help integrate new arrivals into the social fabric of our city. We are the largest immigrant and refugee community-based organization in Oregon, and we are led by and organized for the very communities we serve. IRCO has helped make sure all newcomers can become successful, contributing members of Portland—whether by becoming new business owners or partnering with local businesses to hire refugees, to engaging youth and their families in schools, to playing leadership or civic engagement roles in their neighborhoods. Funds from this Give!Guide campaign will directly support our 200+ culturally and linguistically specific and responsive programs (both in-person and virtual) to serve individuals and families at every age and stage of life.

Quote

“Asylee or refugee, we are in the same boat. Because we’re all struggling to learn English, we’re all struggling to find employment, we’re all struggling to navigate the system. With a little bit of sacrifice, determination, and perseverance, everything is possible.” Djimet Dogo, Associate Director of IRCO

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We resolve to be anti-racist, address anti-Blackness, be trauma and equity informed, both in our workplace, with our program participants, and in society-at-large. We will confront poverty and oppression through solutions that honor our shared humanity and respond to the diversity of community in a strength-based manner because everyone should feel like they belong, know their culture, language and beliefs are assets not deficits and have the right to the same resources and advantages to succeed and thrive. And we will hold our Board, organization, staff, our partners, and our elected leaders accountable for the equity and racial justice priorities of our communities—and to the preservation of our interconnected wealth, health, dignity, and well-being. Our multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-lingual identities and our diversity are our strengths. We will co-create a safe space and place where everyone is welcomed, thrives, and belongs to a larger community family.
