Janus Youth Programs

Mission

For 50 years since being founded by three Portland women, Janus has become one of the most diverse nonprofits in the Northwest helping children, youth and young families experiencing homelessness, abuse, discrimination, domestic violence and the lack of access to affordable housing and educational opportunities. 6,000 diverse individuals receive help yearly, 200 youth are sheltered nightly and 400 children and youth participate in programs daily.

Our residential and re-entry programs, including one for LGBTQ+ youth, and an equine therapy program, provide youth with the skills and normalizing experiences to build successful, independent lives. Our homeless youth programs provide nightly street outreach, assessment services, short and long-term shelters and transitional and independent living services. Our young parent programs focus on parent/child relationships, positive parent support, child development screenings and housing assistance to prevent child abuse and neglect. Our scholarship program helps youth in our programs earn associate, undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees.

Bottom Line for Portland

When you give to Janus, your donation will provide first-aid and hygiene supplies for our nightly street outreach program, ensure young moms and their infants and toddlers have access to medical and mental health services and safe and secure housing and fill our supply closets with baby formula, diapers, bus tickets, strollers, educational toys and books and warm winter clothing for homeless youth and families.

Quote

From the streets to jail to losing her son, a Janus youth was driven by the motto, “never give up.” Today Annie has a college degree, a management level job, a home and is reunited with her son. Just as she never gave up, Janus never gave up on her. Join us and help other youth to “NEVER GIVE UP.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We celebrate the richness created by a variety of cultures, beliefs and life experiences. Janus Youth Programs is invested in advancing equitable services for all children, youth and families and for all staff. We recognize both advocacy and education about equity is important for the success of marginalized communities. Collaborations with the communities we work with informs our lens.
