JOIN supports the efforts of individuals and families currently experiencing homelessness to gain access to safe, stable, and sustainable housing. Our model is relationship-based, participant-led, and most importantly, rooted in anti-racism to ensure our programs are equitable. Once we move people into their new home, our Retention Teams provide ongoing support to ensure long-term stability, as a result, 83% of people achieve stability 12 months post-move-in.
Bottom Line for Portland
On average, JOIN helps 25 people each week move out of homelessness into permanent housing. As an organization, we also work upstream on solutions to address the systemic issues that perpetuate homelessness. Supporting JOIN's work will ensure that more of our unhoused neighbors, especially those from BIPOC communities, will be provided the wrap-around services to attain and remain in safe, stable housing.
“JOIN helped me overcome challenges and move into housing, and my worker always treated me like a person, never judging me, always encouraging. He continues to show up with compassion and wisdom to give me the edge of confidence to believe in myself– pushing me to greatness!” - A.
“For all the challenges of the past couple years, I’m proud of making sure that folks on my caseload are housed, that there’s food on their tables, that their bills are paid, that they’re connected to their resources around them, and they know that they’re fully capable of accessing any resources they need and also not afraid of asking for help when they need it, and that their worker will be there with support." - JOIN Retention Worker
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
JOIN is committed to preserving the dignity, humanity, and uniqueness of each person that we work with on their path back to housing stability. To achieve this, we will strive to ensure that all of our programs and services are equitable in both access and outcomes regardless of a person’s race, ethnicity, faith, culture, language, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation or family status. JOIN knows that certain communities are significantly over-represented among those experiencing homelessness and that there are disparities in outcomes for members of those communities– we pursue effective strategies and devote dedicated time and resources at every level of our organization to address these disparities.
