Lloyd EcoDistrict

Mission

As the 1st certified EcoDistrict in Oregon, LED aims to make Lloyd the most sustainable neighborhood in North America by engaging the community, forming partnerships, and developing programs built on the pillars of equity, resilience, and climate protection.

Bottom Line for Portland

Climate change must be urgently addressed. Using Lloyd as a “living lab,” Lloyd EcoDistrict links policy and implementation, bringing progressive and meaningful action to residents, employees, small businesses, and the full spectrum of the community. Going beyond traditional sustainability measures, LED recognizes that environmental justice and equitable support are vital to the health of neighborhoods and strives to build programming and collaborative partnerships that resonate with our beloved community.

Quote

“I am writing to express … enthusiastic thanks for the role that Lloyd EcoDistrict played in rehabilitating the street painting…The event brought together residents of the neighborhood, including the residents of Calaroga Terrace and families from Irvington, the young mothers and children from the agency across the street, and others. Your equipment, materials, and design were first-class!”

I’ve served on the board of Lloyd EcoDistrict for over 5 years now, and what I’ve seen more than anything else is that LED is a connector. Lloyd EcoDistrict connects people to the resources they need. It connects activists with funding. It connects artists with platforms. It connects business with community. Lloyd EcoDistrict connects the neighborhood. It’s a stellar example of what the EcoDistrict model can do.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Home to the Moda Center, the Oregon Convention Center, and high-end development, Lloyd is also home to a higher-than-average houseless, senior, BIPOC, and low-income residential population. Lloyd EcoDistrict is deeply committed to equity, ensuring that our diverse community has equal access to opportunities and meaningful participation. Acknowledging Portland's history of discrimination, we actively support vulnerable groups and prioritize inclusivity, sustainability, and well-being for all. Through collaboration, we nurture partnerships with historically under-represented groups, ensuring their involvement in district changes and equitable distribution of benefits.
