My Voice Music
Mission
Amplifying young voices and igniting self-discovery through music.
Bottom Line for Portland
A donation to My Voice Music literally puts a microphone in the hands of a young person and helps us hold space for them to find and share their voice. A successful campaign ensures that we will be able to bring trauma-informed music programs to 1000 youth each year through MVM Studios and satellite programs with youth in crisis in dozens of Portland-area mental health treatment centers, juvenile detention centers, migrant facilities, and programs for young people recovering from sexual exploitation. Every dollar you contribute helps MVM provide free music programs.
Quote
“My Voice Music saved my life. My Voice Music was the only place I felt I could be accepted. It made me happy when I couldn’t be happy. My Voice Music was like family.”- Amber (MVM participant)
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
MVM actively fights against the causes of systemic oppression, using our resources, knowledge, and physical assets to provide youth with a platform to amplify their voices on their own terms. This means bringing instruments and professional musicians to youth in residential facilities and juvenile justice programs, delivering programs in Spanish for refugees and new arrivals, and providing ongoing support for young people as they transition to life “outside.” Scholarships are provided no questions asked - 50% of participants attend on scholarship.
