Northwest Trail Alliance

Mission
Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) creates a culture of land stewardship and increases access to nature through our mission to advocate for new trails; to protect, improve and build sustainable mountain bike trails; and to create recreational opportunities for mountain biking.
Bottom Line for Portland
Increased Portland and NW trails make access to nature and recreational opportunities easy and welcoming. Trails are critical to promoting the health and well-being of all Portland area communities, and local mountain biking trails promote climate initiative goals when populations don't have to drive long distances to access mountain biking and other outdoor recreation. NWTA works with local governments and public and private landowners to maintain and build public trails; so far in 2022, the NWTA community contributed nearly 8,000 volunteer hours in land stewardship and sustainability.
Quote
“The Northwest Trail Alliance has been a vital partner in the development and stewardship of Gateway Green. Portland Parks & Recreation appreciates our partnership with NWTA, and the work they do to help Portlanders stay active and enjoying the outdoors.” — Ross Swanson, Portland Parks & Recreation
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Northwest Trail Alliance celebrates the diversity of all who enjoy the outdoors through mountain biking and trail access, and recognizes the great need for the outdoor recreational community to be welcoming for all. NWTA is committed to increased trails access for underserved and underrepresented communities. We strive to greatly expand opportunities for all to experience the joy of mountain biking and pursue leadership roles in our growing community through women- and BIPOC-led rides and events.
