Northwest Trail Alliance
The Northwest Trail Alliance’s (NWTA) mission is to create opportunities to enjoy cycling in nature, to foster a community of active and engaged volunteers, and build a culture of land stewardship and environmental responsibility.
Bottom Line for Portland
People want and need to spend time enjoying the outdoors in nature. The Northwest Trail Alliance works with local governments organizing NWTA volunteers to maintain and build public trails. The NWTA also provides infrastructure and financial resources to help local governments keep pace with a growing demand for off-road cycling. In 2019 and 2020, the NWTA community contributed over 40,000 volunteer hours in support of local outdoor recreation opportunities.
“The Northwest Trail Alliance has been a vital partner in the development and stewardship of Gateway Green over the last four years. Portland Parks & Recreation appreciates our partnership with NWTA, and the work they do to help Portlanders stay active and enjoying the outdoors.” —Portland Parks & Recreation landscape architect Ross Swanson
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The health and happiness benefits of outdoor activity should be available to everyone. The Northwest Trail Alliance cultivates a welcoming and equitable environment, and actively works to create access and safe spaces for historically underserved, excluded, and marginalized groups to enjoy the outdoors and pursue leadership roles in our growing community.
