Mission

Oregon Ballet Theatre shares the expressive power of ballet, inspiring an enduring appreciation of dance, and connects in meaningful ways to our community through performance, training, and educational programs.

Bottom Line for Portland

Join OBT on our 35th anniversary! We have performed for over 2.5 million audience members, and brought the beauty of ballet to diverse audiences. The OBT School has produced more than 20,000 students, who have performed on six continents, showcasing the global impact of our training programs. OBT’s Education and Community Engagement initiatives have reached 473,000 Portlanders through school programs, theatre-based education, and lectures, nurturing a love for dance in future generations and deepening our community's connection to the arts.

Quote

“Bringing ballet to our school has ignited a passion for dance for many of our students. The excitement from our second, third, and fourth grade students on OBT days is palpable. The smiles and energy students return with after a trip to the ballet is a testament to the power of dance and the connections they have with OBT.”

-Krystin Murphy, Chehalem Elementary

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The inclusion of diverse perspectives enriches what we do both on and off the stage, strengthens our organization, and makes ballet a more powerful and relevant cultural experience. We are committed to understanding where barriers exist, and then actively working to create equitable access and opportunity across all facets of OBT, including partnering with schools and community organizations to help 18,000+ children experience dance every year; offering $90,000 annually in scholarships to OBT School; and supporting fresh choreographic voices through our OBT by Design program.
