Oregon Children's Theatre
For over thirty-five years Oregon Children’s Theatre has been creating exceptional theater experiences that transform lives. We believe theater and storytelling can educate, empower, inspire, and entertain in remarkable ways. Our vision is that all children, families, and communities have opportunities to learn and grow through theater and the arts.
Bottom Line for Portland
Oregon Children’s Theatre has served families and schools in the Portland metro region for over 35 years, offering world-class stage performances, arts-based learning programs, in-school residencies, and after-school programs reaching more than 50,000 students in a typical year. Our stage productions and educational programs are the product of a committed creative community of performers, writers, technical artists, teachers, and staff dedicated to ensuring equitable access to the arts.
“Our son has been transformed by his experience and I am now a passionate believer in the power of theater to inspire and educate.” —OCT Parent
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We are compelled to serve not only as a valued arts organization, but as a change agent advancing social justice in our community. We recognize the urgent need to address inequities on an institutional level, and we embrace our responsibility to mitigate real and perceived barriers to participation. Reaching out and engaging with all parts of our community will lead to a fuller understanding of the cultures that surround us, and provide us with insight into how we tell meaningful and relevant stories: that’s how we build trust and credibility, build audiences, provide positive impacts on children, remain sustainable and relevant, and help grow the spirit and soul of OCT.
Make a donation to OCT in the month of December and you could win a $100 gift certificate for Green Bean Books!
OCT’s business partner is Green Bean Books, a wild and whimsical community-based, independent children's bookstore in the Alberta Arts District: as a partner and season sponsor of OCT, Green Bean Books co-hosts multiple events throughout the year with OCT including read-alouds and sing-alongs.
OCT’s nonprofit partner is PassinArt Theatre Company, an African American producing theatre company whose mission is to educate, entertain, and celebrate our culture while highlighting issues that impact the community; OCT and PassinArt recognize the importance of the arts and arts education in the lives of children and work to bring the arts into the lives of all young people.
