Outside In

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

We help homeless youth and other marginalized people move towards improved health and self-sufficiency.

Bottom Line for Portland

We provide safe, affirming spaces for our community to receive judgment-free care and support. Our outstanding team delivers integrated medical and behavioral health care—including an on-site pharmacy, substance use and medication-assisted treatment—as well as safety, nutrition, and education and job training for young adults experiencing homelessness, and additional social services at seven locations in the Portland metro area. More than 11,000 people access care and services each year at Outside In.

Quote

All along the way, the staff at Outside In had my back. They are amazing people. I’ve had bad days but never one bad day with anybody at Outside In. I see how they offer so many services to meet people where they are with what they need, and I’m super grateful for all the opportunities and resources available.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Outside In recognizes our participants and employees have unique experiences rooted in and affected by race, culture, gender and gender identity, age, belief systems, social class and income, sexual orientation, physical ability, and other aspects of individual identity. Access to health care can be a challenge for many—particularly BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities—and Outside In continues to provide essential, low-barrier, and trauma-informed care to these and all of our neighbors. Half of our leadership team and much of our board as well as more than 30 percent of our staff identify as people of color, while throughout our agency our staff receives training in anti-racism, motivational interviewing, assertive engagement, gender-affirming care, the systemic causes of homelessness and poverty, and the social determinants of health.

Incentives

The first $50,000 in Give!Guide donations to Outside In will be matched dollar for dollar by The Benito and Frances C. Gaguine Foundation.

Partner(s)

Our kind friends at The Benito and Frances C. Gaguine Foundation encourage donors to double their impact through Give!Guide by matching up to $50,000 in gifts to Outside In, because they have seen how our programs and services transform lives and build futures.

Our nonprofit partners include New Avenues for Youth and Janus Youth Programs, who have joined Outside In for years as part of the Multnomah County Homeless Youth Continuum to help ensure services reach those who need them most. We are also proudly working with Portland's Artist Mentorship Program (AMP).
