Portland Backpack

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Portland Backpack’s mission is to serve children who are at risk of hunger by providing food sacks for weekend days when food scarcity is higher. We believe that engaging the community in our efforts creates a greater impact that reaches beyond reducing hunger.

Bottom Line for Portland

In Oregon, 1 in 5 kids experience food insecurity and, each weekend, families in Portland are struggling to feed their kids on the days when food scarcity is highest. Portland Backpack offers a simple solution: put shelf stable food sacks with a care card into kids' hands to take home at the end of each school week to make sure the kids we see every day, eat every day.

We are filled to the brim with gratitude to partner with PB and serve so many families. Cheers to another wonderful year!” Paige Garcia, Woodlawn Elementary Family & Community Engagement Coordinator.
