Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation supports and protects, as a fundamental right and value, a person’s freedom to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices—including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion—through education, training, organizing and research. We champion public policies that address disparities in reproductive health care and promote health equity for all people.

Bottom Line for Portland

The war on reproductive freedom hasn’t faced a moment like this in over a generation. With Roe on the brink it is critical that we invest in and commit to state-based actions, expanding access to care, and compassionate, human-centered policies. Oregon is poised to become an abortion sanctuary state for many and we must continue to lead as a beacon for progressive reproductive care.

Quote

"The work of Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation is absolutely critical and with your generous help through the 2021 Give!Guide campaign, we can make sure that no one in Oregon goes without reproductive health care. Whether you are a first time donor or a long-time supporter, your investment in Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation is vital for our community. We must stand up for reproductive freedom now more than ever. As we've seen across the country, if we're not paying attention, these rights disappear. I just couldn't imagine living in a state other than Oregon. Thank you so much for supporting Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation and Give!Guide. I am very grateful personally and I know that the state will be better because of your investment."

—Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

While today’s Pro-Choice Oregon is BIPOC-led, we recognize and are working to make amends for a legacy of exclusionary policies that failed to develop and support an inclusive mission, staff and board. Our organization continues to address these areas of weakness and adopt inclusive anti-racist practices and prioritize rebuilding trust within communities that are most impacted by abortion barriers in Oregon, namely: Black, Indigenous, and other people of color; gender minorities (trans, non-binary, intersex, Two Spirit, gender queer, +); sexual orientation minorities (gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, +); working poor, low income, economically disenfranchised and/or others who are experiencing housing or other insecurities; disabled people, and/or those who live with chronic illness; people that identify as neurodivergent, neuroatypical; rural Oregonians; students and youth; immigrant or refugee communities; and/or people that identify as female or femme. We aim to build a new generation of advocates that will amplify the voices and leadership of all people who can become pregnant.
