Raphael House of Portland
Raphael House provides a foundation of hope for a life free from domestic violence. We offer life-saving, gender-inclusive services to adults and children escaping abuse—to help survivors achieve the safety and stability they deserve—while also working to prevent future abuse through education.
Bottom Line for Portland
We help families end the cycle of domestic violence and rebuild their lives after abuse. Annually, Raphael House reaches more than 3,273 survivors and community members through emergency shelter in a confidential location, housing assistance, ongoing support, and violence and sex-trafficking prevention workshops in local schools. As rates of abuse have spiked and the housing crisis has escalated during the pandemic, we’ve continually offered 24-hour shelter and hotline assistance – providing over 9,015 safe nights and assisting 360 callers – while supporting 450+ survivors in staying safe, healthy, and housed.
“Raphael House was a safe haven for my family when we had nowhere else to go. They helped me learn that I deserve respect and love. Now I teach my children that they have a right to this, too. The cycle of violence ends with me.” —Jayla, survivor, mom, and past shelter resident
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Domestic violence affects all people and communities, but we clearly see that people who have been historically barred from accessing resources experience greater barriers to safety, especially Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Queer families. That’s why we have designed our programming to be a safe, welcoming space for survivors of every gender identity, sexuality, race, ethnicity, immigration status, primary language, ability, and age. We are committed to always learning, improving, and growing in pursuit of a more just and equitable world.
