St. Andrew Legal Clinic

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

St. Andrew Legal Clinic works to uphold the principle that access to legal representation should be a fundamental right, not a privilege limited to a select few. Our primary focus is to offer affordable legal services to individuals who fall within the gap of not qualifying for free legal services yet cannot afford to hire an expensive private attorney to navigate the intricate and daunting legal system. We operate on the belief that no one should be locked out of the legal system based on their income, race, spiritual belief, sex, gender, mental health, disability, and/or national origin.

Bottom Line for Portland

For 45 years, our unwavering commitment has been directed toward empowering and supporting marginalized communities, ensuring their access to essential legal representation. We provide no-cost legal services to Veterans, survivors of domestic violence and immigrant and refugee families. At the heart of our mission lies a fundamental belief: by transforming the lives of our clients, we are catalyzing positive change in the broader community. We are not just legal advocates, we are champions of justice, dedicated to dismantling systemic inequities in the legal landscape.

Quote

“I won full custody of my children. Giving my children a stable home has made the biggest difference in our lives and I could not be more thankful."

~Yessica, SALC client

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our work representing clients from marginalized communities is a powerful way to address the root causes of systems of oppression. Marginalized communities often lack the financial resources to access legal representation. SALC ensures that individuals who may have been oppressed due to systemic barriers have access to the justice system. Our work contributes to a more equitable society. Throughout our representation, SALC attorneys strive to center the voices of our clients in order to expose systemic biases within the legal system itself. Our goal is to represent as many underserved and financially disadvantaged clients as possible. SALC believes the cumulative effect of many such legal interventions can have a significant impact on dismantling oppressive systems over time
