Stone Soup PDX
Mission
Stone Soup empowers people experiencing barriers to employment to achieve self-reliance through training for careers in the foodservice industry.
Bottom Line for Portland
Stone Soup’s 12-week, trauma-aware culinary job training program works with individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Our participants learn the skills necessary to obtain gainful employment and prepare delicious, fresh meals for day center and shelter guests during their hands-on training.
Quote
“They took my mind off what was going on in my life and they allowed me to focus on something else…They helped me get through that really rough time in my life. If I hadn’t gone to Stone Soup, I wouldn’t be on Earth today. They helped me get off drugs and alcohol.” David, Stone Soup Graduate
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
At Stone Soup, we recognize it is imperative to confront institutional and structural racism, discrimination, and biases that perpetuate houselessness, poverty, and other injustices. As we embark on our journey of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, we realize the profound need to examine our approach to work. This introspection is essential to cultivate a robust sense of belonging among participants, volunteers, staff, and supporters – both within our walls and in the broader community. Our evolution in understanding propels us forward, dedicated to dismantling barriers, fostering equity, and cultivating an inclusive environment where every voice contributes to positive change.
