Stone Soup PDX

Mission

Stone Soup PDX builds economic stability for people facing barriers to employment through hands-on culinary training and our community meals program. Our approach goes beyond workforce development, offering participants new skills, greater confidence, and an expanded network of support, as well as the opportunity to imagine a better future for themselves and their families.

Bottom Line for Portland

Stone Soup PDX prepares Portlanders facing employment barriers for stable jobs by providing:

🍳Hands-on culinary training

💵 Paid work experience

🥗 Training through meal prep for shelters and community partners

In Portland, thousands are locked out of opportunity—not for lack of ambition, but because of barriers like:

🏠 Housing insecurity

⚖️ Justice system involvement

🚫 Systemic discrimination

With 30,000 unemployed in Multnomah County and too few training programs that meet people where they are, cycles of poverty persist. Inclusive pathways to living-wage jobs are critical to avoid leaving entire communities behind.
