The Rosewood Initiative

BIPOC-Led Organization

Building a safe, healthy and vibrant community where neighbors can thrive together.

Bottom Line for Portland

The Rosewood Initiative is a nonprofit community based organization that has been implementing neighbor-led strategies since 2009. Our community center, Rosewood, provides space for people to gather, connect to resources, celebrate and work on projects that improve their lives and the community. As we grow our impact, we are making transformational change to the conditions in the community that make it possible for everyone to thrive. We do not just focus on the individuals in the community, but also investing in the community, to make everlasting impact to really change how resources are distributed in Portland, ensuring we are advocating for the communities in need the most.

“I came across Rosewood when the pandemic started. I was able to get help with COVID-19 household assistance. At that time I had been unemployed at home for 6 months. I now know there is an organization that helps with all types of resources. Thank you all!” -Rosewood community member

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Rosewood neighbors are on the border of Portland/Gresham. Outer East Portland is often forgotten. Our neighbors generally have fewer opportunities to live a high quality of life compared with people in other areas of the Portland Metro region. We focus on partnering with organizations and advocating to bring more resources that the community is voicing, that is a result of the inequity of services in Portland. We serve a very diverse community and focus on the Latinx, African-American/Black, Rohingya, and Nepali communities. The Rosewood community is strong, resilient, and beautiful. We work alongside Rosewood neighbors to bring more everlasting opportunities to their community and create more access to services.
