The Rosewood Initiative

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Building a safe, healthy and vibrant community where neighbors can thrive together.

Bottom Line for Portland

We believe that everyone deserves a safe, well resourced and amenity rich neighborhood.

Our organization works collaboratively with nonprofits and government agencies, creating a Community Hub complete with sustainable programs that meet the immediate needs of our neighbors, while also working upstream to address root causes.

Programs such as our Rosewood Bucks used at our Makers Market give our neighbors income to spend on local goods and increase the revenue for local small businesses.  In 2023 Rosewood Bucks put  $10,030 directly into the hands of our neighbors and local businesses.

Our Wellness Wednesdays bring fresh food directly to our neighborhood and provide an intentional space for community members to connect with health service providers on a regular basis.

Quote

“It was an amazing experience being a vendor at Rosewood Saturday Celebrations. I was able to put my brand out there. One thing that stood out to me that was different from other markets was the Rosewood bucks, and how you're invested in the community, and everyone went home with making something. We just got our own space in Rockwood and we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t have opportunities in events like yours.”

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Rosewood Initiative is committed to addressing the inequities caused by municipal disinvestment that are disproportionately experienced by immigrants, refugees, Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

We serve a very diverse community that is strong, resilient, and beautiful. As a community anchor, The Rosewood Initiative fosters community building and serves as a resource hub for East Portlanders most impacted by systemic exclusion.
