World Arts Foundation Inc.

BIPOC-Led Organization
OCT Qualified

World Arts Foundation Inc. celebrates and preserves African-American contributions in American culture. Founded in 1978, our work integrates the arts and education to inspire culture-building among community leaders, artists, educators, activists, and youth. We are stewards of a multicultural archive which documents our community's legacy in Portland's Albina District. Our programs and community events highlight Albina's cultural heritage for future generations.

Bottom Line for Portland

As a pillar for Black America and Oregon's Black history, the World Arts Foundation conducts cultural inventories, supports research, offers general funding, serves on advisory committees, and acts as a founding partner or producer of meaningful organizations and projects. Through impactful community events and educational programming, the organization amplifies regional artistic contributions while highlighting the culture heritage of Portland's historic Albina District through an extensive media archive. The foundation's annual tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr is the largest community cultural event of its kind in the State of Oregon and features pioneering activists, community leaders, artists, musicians, and youth whose valiant efforts have left lasting impacts in Oregon's African-American community.

World Arts Foundation Inc. plays a vital role in ensuring diversity within the shared, living history of all Oregonians. From community events, festivals, and facilitated race talks to the preservation of culture, there's simply no other organization in Oregon offering the comprehensive scope of support to Black American artists that we are proud to provide." - Sandra Wadsworth, Executive Director

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As an organization that works to preserve and promote the work of minority artists and culture-makers, diversity, equity and inclusion are central to both the mission and values of World Arts Foundation. Our predominantly BIPOC board of directors, staff and volunteers force work tirelessly to create platforms and programs that feature underrepresented artists, and in turn, play a key role in building a more equitable world.
