Mission

To provide outstanding rock, pop, and country music education for youth by offering tuition assistance, instrument rentals, and exceptional, state-of-the-art performance opportunities.

Bottom Line for Portland

Music is a huge part of what makes us who we are, as individuals and a community. At Youth Music Project we know that the gift of music in the lives of youth can become the soundtrack they need to power through tough times and celebrate their milestones. We believe ALL youth deserve the transformative power of music in their lives. That’s why we provide state-of-the-art music education programs at reduced or no-cost to hundreds of youth each year who qualify, because music creates resilience, understanding, curiosity, confidence and so much more.

Quote

“It’s a really magical place, you can really feel the sense of community here. I think everybody deserves to have the great experience with the music, the relationship, and the love for music that everyone here has.” - Shannon, Youth Music Project student

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Youth Music Project celebrates the rich diversity of perspectives, experiences, and unique identities that each person brings. While a soloist shines brightly on their own, a band, choir, or ensemble thrives with the vibrant energy created by combining unique instruments and voices in harmony. Guided by our board, staff, and leadership, Youth Music Project uses music education to empower youth to appreciate differences, foster critical thinking, engage in deep listening, and create inclusive spaces that honor every voice and perspective.

Practice lies at the core of mastery and is a cornerstone of music education. At Youth Music Project, we recognize the vital role of consistent practice in achieving each other’s goals. Through practice, we, embrace learning from mistakes, cultivate openness, maintain accountability, provide support, share knowledge, take leadership roles as needed, and graciously step aside to let others shine. We are mindful that our efforts and attitudes influence everyone within our community.
