YWCA of Greater Portland
Mission
YWCA of Greater Portland is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Bottom Line for Portland
We are fierce advocates for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, moms and kids impacted by incarceration, and seniors living on low, fixed incomes. We believe safe, stable housing is a human right, and the first step towards meaningful healing for our most vulnerable neighbors. All of our services are tailored to each individual's needs and are based on their unique circumstances. We support our participants through housing services, therapy services, case-management, family reunification, re-entry services, and more.
Quote
"Thanks to my YWCA advocate's empathy, accommodation, and knowledge, we are finally starting to get back on our feet as Survivors, with dignity and self confidence. They shared the most helpful resources that appropriately fit my families needs, specific goals, and situation." - YWCA Participant
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
YWCA of Greater Portland actively works to disrupt and dismantle systems of oppression while elevating the voices and experiences of historically marginalized communities. We prioritize hiring staff with diverse lived experiences, and proximity to the populations we serve. Currently, 90% of our staff are survivors, 60% are BIPOC, 25% are 2SLGBTQIA+, and 25% are Bilingual or multilingual. We are part of the oldest and largest network of multiracial women's organizations in the world and have been serving the Portland community for over 120 years.
