Our Just Future
Mission
Our Just Future (formerly Human Solutions) counters the forces that keep people and communities in poverty by building relationships and assets that create opportunity – today and for future generations. East Portland and wider Multnomah County is the heart of our investments, advocacy, and programs.
Bottom Line for Portland
The housing and homelessness crises in Portland continue to grow, which means the work we do to help folks get and stay housed is critically important. Early intervention and prevention are essential to help families avoid the trauma of homelessness. At least 9,000 people participate in our programs or live in our affordable housing communities. We also work to prevent eviction by helping people pay their utility bills, and a whopping 80% of families we help move from homelessness into housing remain housed 12 months later!
Quote
“Thank you, OJF, for having shelter available for me and my family. Throughout my stay, I have been able to increase my income, get my kids enrolled in school, and have left an abusive relationship. I am eager to move into my new place and continue moving forward." - participant survey, shared anonymously
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Racial justice is at the forefront of our work. As a social-services and affordable-housing provider in one of the most racially diverse areas of our state, Our Just Future has a responsibility to counter the racial injustices that are foundational to America’s inequitable housing and economic systems. Our personal and organizational work toward justice, equity and inclusion is essential to how we show up, especially in our efforts to deliver equitable results for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Our collective goal is to build a connected community where everyone is valued and has access to the tools they need to thrive.
