FinAbility

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

By survivors for survivors, we empower survivors of domestic violence and their families to build the financial security needed to permanently break free from the cycle of abuse, live free from violence, and thrive.

Bottom Line for Portland

Annually, FinAbility’s financial empowerment programming is accessed by over 20,000 survivors of domestic abuse and community members.

Our trauma-informed programming includes our financial toolkit, virtual classes, and 1:1 financial mentoring services, which provide lifesaving information about domestic abuse and pathways to achieving financial security

We work closely with over 15 community organizations, including Raphael House, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women, and the Oregon Bankers Association. Together, we're working towards a safer, brighter Portland.

Quote

"The Financial Mentor program offered by FinAbility was the missing piece to my healing 'puzzle'.  Our community has the resources for mental health, support groups, DV curriculums, and housing shelters that I was fortunate to access when I needed it.  Combining all of that with the power of financial literacy, or even just another adult to weigh in on budget or income decisions has been such a relief for me as I work to rebuild life after abuse."

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Domestic abuse impacts all people and communities, but we understand that it disproportionately impacts those who are marginalized and oppressed. BIPOC and Queer survivors frequently face additional barriers to building the financial stability needed to live free from violence.

At FinAbility, we design our programming to be trauma-informed, survivor-specific, and inclusive by seeking feedback from the communities we serve through focus groups, listening sessions, and the creation of our 8-person Survivor Advisory Committee.
