Schoolhouse Supplies

Mission

Schoolhouse Supplies promotes educational equity in Portland area public schools by providing free school supplies to under-resourced students. Our goal is to ensure that every child has access to the learning tools that allow them to achieve academic success, regardless of their family’s income or racial/ethnic identity.

Bottom Line for Portland

A donation to Schoolhouse Supplies helps support the education of local public school students beyond the first day of school. By the middle of the school year, classrooms have used up over half the supplies they started with. We recognize that it is increasingly more work to start the school year with adequately stocked classrooms at the under-resourced schools we serve; teachers often have to dig into their pockets to provide necessary supplies for their students, spending an average of $500-$1,000 a year.

Our mission is to relieve the financial burden on students and teachers by offering free learning and teaching materials throughout the school year.

With your help, we can make a real difference in ensuring equitable learning environments for students in our public schools.

Quote

"My students show up to school with only the clothes on their backs. Schoolhouse Supplies allows for all my students to have materials that allow them to engage in lessons and grow as learners. With our high mobility rate, students that show up after the school year has started walk in knowing that they have everything they need to jump right into our classroom community!"

- Amanda Lehman, 2nd-grade teacher, Glenfair Elementary School

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Schoolhouse Supplies we commit to include the voices of those we serve in every programmatic decision we make. Our commitment to educational equity means we must be advised from the students and teachers we serve as they come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, enriched with knowledge that creates positive community and organizational engagement and holistic decision making.
