American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Oregon (ACLU)

BIPOC-Led Organization

The ACLU of Oregon works in courts, in the legislature, and in communities to expand freedoms of press, speech, assembly, and religion, and the rights to due process, equal protection, and privacy.

Bottom Line for Portland

The ACLU of Oregon is committed to protecting and advancing civil liberties and civil rights for all. True democracy requires the voices of all community members, including those who experience the most marginalization. Our work continues to prioritize democratic participation and speech, immigrant and refugee rights, criminal justice reform, and police accountability through litigation, legislative advocacy, and by building stronger relationships with members of our community and coalition partners. Together we are building a more just, equitable, and caring Oregon for us, by us, and with us — for all.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

For the ACLU to do the work of democracy, we must center Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), low-income, and other marginalized communities and voices. We are committed to transforming our work so that our fundraising, legal, advocacy, education, and communication efforts are community centered and led. We will look to the communities who experience the most marginalization and oppression to guide us and determine if our work is successful.
