Mission

Alberta Abbey aims to nurture the creative, visual and performing arts in N/NE Portland by amplifying opportunities for Black and underrepresented communities. The Abbey serves this mission by providing affordable education, gallery, studio, and performance spaces, and showcasing events for local groups of all ages.

Bottom Line for Portland

The Abbey enriches the arts in Portland by cultivating diverse and relevant programming.  With funds raised through donations and external events, The Abbey is able to provide space for culturally important productions.

Quote

“There’s message in the music and the artists, and they need to have places to express that.  This is going to be, hopefully, the number one place in our neighborhood uniquely positioned to really support the artists.” - JP Peterson

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Our vision for the arts in NE Portland demands that we actively seek out underrepresented artists, perspectives, and ideas. We are committed to embracing and reflecting the broadest possible range of people who live, work, and converge in NE Portland.  Our organization is predominantly woman and BIPOC led.
