Campaign for Equal Justice (CEJ)
Mission
We work for equal access to justice for all Oregonians by getting free civil legal help to the lowest-income and most vulnerable Oregonians when they are facing life-changing legal emergencies.
Bottom Line for Portland
Your support helps legal aid serve people with the most critical legal needs—food, shelter, medical care, income maintenance, and physical safety. About 25% of legal aid’s cases involve family law, usually helping victims of domestic violence, and almost 80% of legal aid’s clients are women, most with children to support. Legal aid keeps families safe and communities stable by addressing problems before they become complicated and entrenched. Preventing an unlawful eviction can keep a family housed, and helping Oregonians access health care, education, or benefits increases stability and reduces poverty. Early legal help can avoid or minimize contact with criminal justice, juvenile justice, and dependency systems. Research found that every $1 spent on legal aid creates $3.43 in financial benefit to individuals and the community in Oregon.

“by reaching out to the right people, [my legal aid attorney] was able to get everything solved very quickly. She had the experience and knowledge to resolve all of this.” -Natalia
