Mission

Leach Botanical Garden offers immersive, restorative, and educational experiences in a unique landscape of native plants and horticultural collections for the purpose of building community, celebrating nature, and inspiring environmental stewardship.

Bottom Line for Portland

Often described as Portland’s secret garden, our 17-acre site is home to over 2,000 plant species and is open to the public 5-6 days/week year-round, welcoming approx 32,000 visitors annually. We prioritize access and equity to greenspace by offering free admission to anyone who needs it via our Garden for All program. And we work closely with local BIPOC and conservation-focused groups, including The Blueprint Foundation, AYCO, Wisdom of the Elders, David Douglas High School, and Johnson Creek Watershed to offer programs that connect plants and people.

Quote

An Instagram post from a partner org shows the type of connections that are made at the Garden. They stated, “The energy in the air was palpable as (students) eagerly soaked up knowledge about the delicate balance of our ecosystems and the threats posed by invasive species. But the real excitement began when it was time to pull on their water boots and wade into the Johnson Creek Watershed... Armed with curiosity and a passion for discovery, our students didn’t just learn—they connected with the environment in a way that promises to inspire future stewardship.”
