North by Northeast Community Health Center
North by Northeast Community Health Center improves health outcomes & advances health equity by offering primary care services and health education/promotion focused on the Black/African American community.
Bottom Line for Portland
Donating to North by Northeast will help ensure that continued COVID response activities and resources – advice, vaccines, cash and food assistance – are equitably distributed, with a focus on one of the communities hardest hit by the health, economic and employment crises of the COVID-19 pandemic – the Black/African American community in the Portland metro area. We can see lights at the end of this dark tunnel, but to get all of us there together we must remain committed to supporting equity in healthcare. Donating to North by Northeast will help make sure there is a clinic that Black patients know is for them the moment they walk through the doors, for many more years to come.
Everyone at North by Northeast goes out of their way to make sure I’m taken care of. They treat me with respect and explain things in terms I can understand. And they care about the whole person, like handing out food boxes and laptops. Now that I’ve been here, I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
All of our work is guided by our Anti-Racism Policy, which provides guidelines for implementing new projects and decision-making with a racial equity awareness and lens. Our Racial Equity Committee serves as the accountability group for this policy, and we rely on our Patient Wellness Council to help ensure we’re rolling out services and opportunities in a way that is responsive to the community. We measure the success of our diversity practices by the extent to which our staff and board mirror the diversity of our patient population (60% of staff and 70% of board members are Black) , and we measure the success of our equity practices by the rate of health disparities within our patient population (currently no disparity).
