PHAME empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead full, creative lives through arts education and performance.
Bottom Line for Portland
For people with developmental disabilities, PHAME’s unique arts education classes, performances, and community events create opportunities to discover and nurture artistic talents, gain real-world skills, build self-confidence, socialize, and connect with others who share their experience of disability and those who do not.
Our whole community is stronger when people with disabilities are represented on stage, in art shows, behind the camera. Because of PHAME, thousands of audience members have experienced the art, stories and perspectives of people with developmental disabilities.
At PHAME, we believe that art is for everyone. Excellence is for everyone. And community is for everyone.
"There is something extraordinary in coming together with people who understand my experience because theirs is so similar. When I'm at PHAME, I feel powerful. I feel like I can sing the hardest songs, dance the most difficult dances, and choose whatever path will take me to greatness."
–PHAME Student Timmy Mair
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
All of PHAME’s programs are designed to be accessible for adults with developmental disabilities, who do not have enough opportunities to do meaningful work, form relationships, and be treated as adults. PHAME also recognizes that there is diversity within disability, and we ensure that PHAME serves people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people living on low incomes.
